Family says dog shot to death Thanksgiving morning

Bear, a 10-year-old Labrador, was found dead around 9 a.m. Thursday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A family in Jefferson County is grieving after their beloved Lab was found dead in their yard Thanksgiving morning.

The family, who live in the Deerwood neighborhood of Ken Caryl Valley, said they let 10-year-old Bear out this morning around 8 a.m. When they came out at 9 a.m., Bear was dead with what the family said were two small, circular wounds.

Bear's family believe he was shot.

The dog's family described Bear as extremely friendly and gentle. They said he had a collar that kept him from leaving the yard.

They're asking for anyone in the area who may have heard something or has security camera footage to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies and Animal Control officers responded and collected Bear's body. The Sheriff's Office said a necropsy will be performed to determine his death.
